I also got a call, similar to the one's described above. He stated that he was an IRS agent and that a warrant had been issued for me and that my "physical location" was under federal investigation.
The caller had a heavy accent and there was lots of background noise, It was hard to understand.
It was so out of the blue and random that the first thing I did was to google the number, which sent me here to see all the other reports.
I was not in danger of falling for this scam, but my Mom and other seniors might take this guy seriously.
He's a menace and needs to be shut down.
I have come to the conclusion that these India-based call centers must watch a lot of old, AWFUL American and/or Bollywood TV shows to come up with the BS they are pumping out in order to get people to pay up! The generic names of the fake "agents" are laughable, and their ridiculous threats must come straight from B movies.
It was hard to understand this man with a heavy accent, but he said he was "Officer John Martin" of the IRS and I should call him back immediately or there would be legal action. I would never call a number like that because the IRS does not operate that way.
This is the second time they have called. Heavy Indian accent and said our physical address was under investigation. Said they were the IRS. You could not even understand him. Said he was Officer John Martin, Badge #MJ0075. Told me to call Senior Officer Richard Webster at 202-239-2680. That was the same phone number that called us. They are so stupid! I played along because I knew it was a scam just to have some fun with the jerk! Said it was critical that we need to pay. Really! Warn anyone you know! So bad!
