Let me guess. Your caller had an Indian accent didn't he? If he did, no surprise. The Indian frauds have been using this scam so much the IRS has posted warnings on their website. If he didn't have an accent, it still doesn't matter. The IRS does NOT call you unless you've initiated contact with them. EVER! They use the Postal Service. Whoever your caller is, tell him to mail (NOT e-mail or fax.) you proof of his claims. He won't. He's a scammer.

Received a call from this number at 4:45am this morning. Indian accent. Said he was from the Crime Reduction Unit of the IRS. I hung up on him. He called back. My husband answered this time and bluffed the caller saying that he himself also worked for the IRS. The caller started stuttering and asked my husband what his badge number was... IRS does not have badge numbers.. LOL. My husband gave a bogus # and told the caller that he was full of BS.. the caller hung up.
I received a few voice mails from this number at my home. Caller had an accent, not sure if it was Indian or not, but said his name was Officer Steven Jones and he was calling from the Federal Tax Investigation Department and that I need to urgently call him back. I never called back cause it's a definite scam and a waste of my time.
Indian accent guy called new york area from this number and stated that I own 5 years back taxes and I will be arrested for 5 years or owe 100000 dollars and im free. Didnt give any information and he didnt even know my tax id number. I looked him up and I saw all this. Thanks to all the people posting this useful information. Ppl please be careful and dont give any personal information. The guy is a scam. Dont fall for it.
