This is a scam! The caller told me that I did tax fraud from 2008-2012 and I owed $4300. Told me when I said I am going to my local IRS office that he was going to go ahead and file court papers against me and he could help me now with the $4300. The IRS does not call you and will send a letter to you if you are truly deliquent or committing tax fraud! The person keeps calling after I have spoken to him!
There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Received a call from this number at this morning First an automated message saying it was the IRS regarding a lawsuit, sounding somewhat official. Called the number back and got a recording saying to leave a message (did not do so) . Less than 5 min later a person called back saying he was an officer of the IRS and was very threatening. Looking for my son but I did not give him any further info and asked him to send a letter, which he said he would do. Has to be a scam.
