Today, I received a call from 800-375-5283 about some USCIS issue with id # 87285. He informed me that I was illegally in the U.S. and that my I-94 is not filed with the government and the cops would call me and get me deported.. After I told him he's lying and hung up, he called again and left me VM with the same details and asked me to call back 202-241-2216 if I dont want to be deported! SCAM!!
Got a call from this number and saw here that others have received a call from the same number. 202-241-2216.
In the past I have received calls from other scammers with similar operation but they were impersonating to be IRS agents.. This number they are impersonating USCIS office.... All trying to extort money from law abiding people and taking advantage of peoples natural fear of these agencies. Everyone please keep in mind that government agencies don't call you and threaten you over the phone and ask to pay by phone by cash/debit cards to get out of trouble. Be aware of your rights and stand up. I am not sure if they are only targeting Indian community or others as well.
Same scam in Canada, might have been targeted due to my ethnic last name, but I was born here! Said there was a legal case against me in the States. Didn't bother answering the message. Was a heavily accented male a few weeks ago, now a woman with a similar thick accent.
I get a call from a scammer from 202-241-2216 at least twice a week threatening me. This scammer pretending as an officer. Hope the U.S. government can help to catch these scammers who have victimized innocent people.
