I received the same phone call from an Indian man who then "transferred" the call to an Indian woman named Cathy Brown. They claimed that I owed the IRS money and that an arrest warrant was out for me. They were very rude and told me to say goodbye to my family and that someone would be at my door in an hour. I then went to my local precinct to verify the information and they told me that this is a FRAUD. The police department had numerous complaints about the same phone call and informed me that this was a SCAM!!!!
Do not give them any information! Report them to http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/ or call 1-800-366-4484.
This is a scammer. They use a Majic Jack number in USA. no trace, probably from a foreign country. There are tons of these majic jack numbers around. All legal agencies usually will not call but to visit you or mail you the notice. Do not fall into this scam. Just hang up!
Just received a call from this number from a man with an Indian accent. They claimed to be from the Criminal Investigations Dept of the IRS. When I asked him why my caller ID didin't indicate that they were from the IRS he insisted he was conducting a criminal investigation into a person who didn't even live at my location. I then told him if he was from an official bureau then he should know that the person he was seeking didn't live here and I put down the phone.
A man with an accent called claiming my father hasn't paid his taxes since 2008. My father exclaimed that he has the wrong number and doesn't know what he is talking about. The man on the other line got very upset and starting raising his voice. He stated that if my father wishes he can settle this case right now. I am sure he was alluding to sending money. My father stated he didn't have an issue, and the man stated that if he doesn't cooperate he will file a warrant to send my father to prison within 72 hours.
I then took the phone and scolded the man for being a scammer, and he abruptly hung up the phone.
I got the same call and its unusual for the IRS to tell you are being investigated for tax fraud over a phone call by a man who I can barely understand. I plan on calling the IRS and find out whether this is a legitimate call or a scam. Thank you for sharing.
