Callers announce that you have been issued thousands in Government grant money that you can use anyway that you wish and you will never have to repay ... but of course they need your bank account number to deposit the money.  SCAM ... SCAM ... SCAM !!!

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov

This number called and said I have received a grant from the US Government. I was chosen with 200 other people to receive this grant that I could use for anything! Well woohoo! As long as I didn't use it on drugs, alcohol, or gambling. The she gave me this number to call for her chief officer, Rob Adams. Of course I am not going to call it. It is ridiculous and is not the way grants work. Do not give these people any information!!

I received the same call telling me that I will receive 6700.00 from the government but I had to put 200.00 on a green dot card. So me being very suspicious googled the # and here I am. I knew that it was a scam

This is not a legitimate call from the IRS.

Since this individual is impersonating the IRS you should also report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). You can send an email to [email protected] or file an online complaint by completing their "Online Form" located on their website, http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml

Please visit our "Report Phishing" website (http://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing) and click on "Complaint Assistant". This will allow you to file a complaint with the FTC and identify the complaint as an IRS complaint.

Alternatively you can file a complaint directly with the FTC by visiting http://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov.

Whether you use the IRS link or file the complaint directly with the FTC, add "IRS Hostile Call" in the Comments section of the complaint.

Individuals who have been victimized by this scam and have provided one or more Green Dot MoneyPak numbers to the scammer should also notify Green Dot directly at 800-473-3636 to report the scam and open an investigation.
