Wow. After reading all these comments, glad we missed this call on 2/26/16 while we were on vacation. No msg left; assumed it was a political call. Then, it called again 3/16/16. I picked up and hung up immediately to break the call. It WOULDN'T LET ME! It started ringing IMMEDIATELY again. I did the same thing and AGAIN it just starting ringing immediately. It went to ans. machine, but then failed to leave a message. Scary. Kinda glad I didn't get the message; after a call that wouldn't disconnect, I might have believed it! Have read about these calls, but never got the "IRS" call before.
Here's a copy of the voicemail we got...
"The tax Crime Department of legal affairs with United State treasury. This is officer John koski-man(?) and the moment you receive this message. You need to call us back at 202-249-7466. I repeat it's 202-249-7466. As a as a matter of urgency. I'm looking forward to speak to you. Thank you. Goodbye."
I appreciate the advice here. I was sending a copy to my local police but I will contact the government also!
These scammers always use "202" area code but with a different phone number. This IRS tax scam called at 5:52 am and left a message that the tax fraud dept. of the treasury department has issued an arrest warrant for me but they never mention my name. Total scam that has been highly publicized. The automated message I received is the same as reported above. Total criminal scam.
