Same as the others. I got a recorded call telling me it is an agent from the IRS and that I should return his call or face serious consequences, and that I should not discard this call. The CID was the same as the number the recording told me to call. As soon as I thought of it, I hit the record button on my phone. The message did not repeat, however, so I only got the last half of it.

I called the number back and spoke to the same voice with a moderate Indian accent. I asked him if he was in the US, and then asked if he know it was a felony in this country to impersonate a federal officer. He said, "Oh, is it? Well, what about it?"

He was very willing to engage; seemed very practiced in this scam. Told me his name is James Dicosta (sp?), badge number is 9833486651, and that his office is at 1111 Constitution Avenue, DC 20224 (the legitimate address of the IRS office in Washington, DC).

When he read his badge number he used the European norm of saying "double-three" and "double-six" instead of "three three" and "six six".

His voice broke out a few times as if he was on a poor connection, VOIP or radio mic. I could hear other "agents" in the background handling callers like a busy call center.

Sounds a lot like this scam: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterates-Warning-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam

There's a number there to report the scam, as well as email instructions.

Somene named Sheldon Scott with internal revenue services called with a thick India accent. Threatening legal allegations against you is what he said. Sounded like a potential scam. Anyone hear anything about this?

Yes I was contacted by him. Sounds like Al-Qaeda to me. I called back furious and asked lots of questions because ITS always gives their id number. He hung up on me and now won't answer my calls. It's a scam.

Said he was an IRS agent and I needed to call back immediately or face "big troubles for you ". He had a heavy accent and his vernacular was not consistent with an IRS agent.
