Received a robo-call today saying that the IRS has been "trying to reach me" and that they were filing a lawsuit. Return calls to the above number. This was my first message, so obviously they had not been trying to reach me, plus I believe the IRS works through the mail. Am I the only one who thinks this has scam written all over it?
My wife just called me and said a phone call said we had unpaid taxes dating back to 2008. I called the # back and it auto hung up on me. Lots of scams out there. Never answer a call from 202 area code, as most are scams. The phone # was 202-407-9896.
The IRS never contacts people on the phone or by email. They only contact a person via snail mail or in person. So don't believe a word that you hear over the phone.
Yes, I agree! I had a problem with my taxes and the IRS sent me a certified letter through "snail mail". I had also got a call from 202-407-9896 today saying the IRS was going to sue me! I'm sure there will people that will fall for it.
