Received automated call saying it was google trying to secure my account from a hack. Left a code for me to use. However, I checked and there was no attempt by google to advise me of the hack.
IF you are on the do not call list, YOU need to REPORT these kinds of calls for it to work. They are not psychic. The ONLY way they can know that YOU are getting these illegal calls is for YOU to REPORT them. THEN and only then, can they take action against these scammers, and fine them and imprison them where they belong. Don't blame the Government for your inaction. You can report them at donotcall.gov (you can also check to make sure you are on the do not call list, and/or get yourself put on the do not call list there as well.) THIS kind of call however is trying to get scam you out of money, and should ALSO merit a call to your LOCAL police. These comments on THIS website are only ever seen by folks who do a search for this phone number (like you did) to let them know who called them. PLEASE take the time to report them to the PROPER authorities as well, and THEY WILL take the proper action.
Don't be stupid and waste your time calling the police. That's outrageous.
This # is from Google Voice to verify your account. One of two possibilities:
1) Someone else used your number to verify, which won't work unless they answer YOUR phone and put in the given code;
or,
2) Caller-ID can be faked. Perhaps someone faked this # to you. In this case, your phone company would be as much help as the police, if not more helpful.
If you didn't generate the request within google, it was someone attempting to access your account most likely....... You should check security settings and change your password, etc.....
