This 202-470-6041 called and left a message that they were the internal revenue and that this was my final notice regarding the IRS filing a law suit against us. I called the number back and some dude (sounded like from India) said he was from the IRS. I asked for his employee number (which the IRS always automatically say). He said 987501. It didn't feel right since we are up-to-date on our payment plan to the IRS. Why would they be suing us? Take Heed!!! If it doesn't fell right or sound right then it's not right. He asked for my tax identification number or something like that. I told him if he was the IRS then her should be telling me. I hung-up the phone.
There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.
