They're not going to give their spiel to a counter top. As soon as they realize you're not there (10 seconds? 20?), they'll hang up.
Why post some silliness about the pound sign, if you don't have a clue? If ############# really worked, that information would be all over the Internet.
It doesn't.
"Anything would be worth trying?" Then, why not try talking to them? Listen to their spiel....acting really interested. Get information from them. If you want to play games, play one you can win....and be paid for. Gather information about them. Clear, accurate, and provable information. Then, do two things with it:
First, post it here, so the rest of us can benefit.
Second, go to the courthouse and FILE SUIT TO COLLECT MONEY for the harassment and violations of law.
Makes a whole lot more sense, and has a far greater effect on them, than ########### or a "counter top conversation." Plus, seeing them face to face in the courtroom and telling them what you think of them is more satisfying. So is getting a check from them.
Unlike you, Jay, I know what I'm talking about. I've done it, am doing it, and will continue to do it until calls like these stop completely. This particular source, experience tells me, will probably shut down and move before I can nail them. Unless, of course, people on 800Notes decide to do something sensible, and collect really good information. With six or a dozen reports of who they are, where they are, etc., it will be easier to track down even the sleazeballs. A Houston TV station, within the past month, did a report on a scam outfit which vanished overnight. An employee went to work, and there was nothing there. They may be the ones we're discussing here. UNLESS ENOUGH PEOPLE get enough valid information, soon enough, they'll be gone again. With the right information about them, and if they've done enough wrong things, Texas telemarketers can wind up in jail.
If "anything is worth trying just to get rid of them," don't you think anything which might put them in jail is worth trying? And, if they go to jail, won't we be rid of them?
Pressing some key on your telephone a bunch of times won't do it, though.
I filed a formal complaint with "donotcall.gov". It will be investigated. Then, these bums will get another number and play "whack-a-mole". I'll file another complaint with the feds. And keep doing it.
If you have done it and are doing it then you should know that you wont "SEE" them face to face in the courtroom, it will never be the person that called you! They will still be at their cubical making calls while their company REPRESENATIVE is in court with you!
I like your idea, great advice. I too am tired of all the annoying calls. I am going to indullge these a**holes and pick them apart for information(while giving them nothing valid in return.
