I got the exact same recording. It was obviously not the real IRS. They wouldn't be calling from a cell phone in Wash.DC for one thing! And they wouldn't be using a recorded message like a telemarketer for another!
This is a scam and the IRS are aware of the people that are conducting these phone calls and are conducting reports against these individuals as tampering with people's federal taxes and tax returns is a federal offence. Be assured that this number has been sent to the Department of Treasury Inspector General and these individuals will hear from the Department in due course.
I received a call from this number claiming to be from the IRS. It was a robocall but when I called back and told them I was going to call the police, they laughed and hung up.
i received a message on my home phone, called the number and they asked for my home phone number, asked for my attorney's phone number. I questioned them, read me an affadavit, I continued to ask questions, they hung up on me.
