I got the exact same recording. It was obviously not the real IRS. They wouldn't be calling from a cell phone in Wash.DC for one thing! And they wouldn't be using a recorded message like a telemarketer for another!
I have received 3 phone calls from this phone number in less than 3 weeks. I do not answer calls I don't recognize, so when I got the voicemail it was an automated system stating that Heather Grey from the IRS was trying to reach me and that if I ignored the call, legal matters would be taken accordingly. The first time I got the call, I immediately called my local police department to find out what was going on and they told me it's a spam and that if an officer or someone from the IRS wanted to contact me, they would do it through the mail or an at home visit! So, ignore these calls!
thank goodness for everyone who has posted comments. It lessened my fear and anxieties. I owed taxes but paid them. I'm actually due a refund. I read the irs website.....if you get a call ask for a call back number and a badge number, if they can't provide it then it's a scam, call the IRS. Darn these scammers!!!!
