They called me today too. A "restricted" number called and it sounded like the guy (who said his name was Kanvy Jones) was calling me from India. I even asked him where he was calling from and he said "the Unted States". Who answers that question that way!? Anyway, he told me that he was with the United States Grant Department and I had been selected along with 17,000 other people to receive a one-time $7500 grant because I have no arrest record (and a couple other reasons that I couldn't understand). Every time I asked a question, he acted like he was thrown off track and he would just start (what sounded like) reading from a script and repeating everything he had already told me. He said that I had to call his "manager" to process this grant and he told me to call 202-657-4306. Some lady named Jennifer (who also sounded like she was calling from India) told me that I could either give my bank account number, visa number or go to a Western Union to get my "grant". She said that I needed to go to the Western Union and call her when I was in the parking lot. She said that I needed to take $309 for a "security deposit" (that I would get back after the transaction was processed) and that she would talk me through filling out the necessary forms. I called the closest Western Union and she told me it sounded like a scam and she gave me the number to the Western Union home office (1-800-325-6000) and the guy I talked to there said that Western Union does not transfer money for the government. He took a report from me and he said that he would report it to the authorities. When I didn't call "Jennifer" back, she called me and I told her I had talked with Western Union and that I knew what she was doing was a scam. She acted very shocked that I would think that and still tried to get me to go through with it. She said that she would call her "higher ups" to cancel my transaction and that I would receive a letter in 10 days explaining what I turned down. I told her thanks and then hung up on her because she started to try to fast talk me again. This is a scam!!! Beware!!!
Yes I got the same call too!!! How is the goverment giving away money and the country is in recession!!! This is a big scammmmmmmmmmmm!!! The goverment does not give money through Western Union!!!!
I did receive the same call to day ,so before i call I did some resarech and found that the number does not belong to any federal office,even the guy number he told me was a scam, thank you all
