Dead air, they disconnected without responding. Caller ID "DIST OF COLUMBIA," number is a MCI Metro ATS Landline in Washington, DC. Line silence sounded like it was a boiler room waiting pool, i.e. no sound until the dispatcher assigns the line to an operator. If the dispatcher doesn't hear an answer or doesn't like what he hears, he doesn't assign it and disconnects. I said "Hello Mr. District!" then "Hello, Mr. Columbia?" which probably got me disconnected.
Political groups, charities, and non-profits are exempted from the do-not-call list and this may have been a legitimate call. Others here tell of repeated calls, rudeness, and other unprofessional behavior so I haven't blocked the number; I may learn more later and if so, I will post what I learn here.
Since scammers pretend to be whoever is collecting donations at any point in time, I never give to someone on the phone. If you want to donate to a political candidate or party, use their web site so that you are certain where the money is going.
Just got one. Caller ID says DIST OF COLUM . I used *67 and called the number. Got a recording that kept repeating "To add your number to our Do Not Call list, press 1"
These people keep calling and when we pick up it says to press any key followed by the #. We hang up. We are on the do not call list but it seems it is useless
Unfortunately, there is a minority of political and telemarketing groups that have realized that the National Do-Not-Call Registry has no teeth, and so have chosen to ignore or end-run around it. That leaves it up to us to fix... With these political PACs, I like to listen to their spiel, ask a few softball questions, then pledge a modest amount. When it comes time to give them my credit card # (I don't think so...!), I apologize for having an "issue" with my card and if they mail me an invoice, I'll get a check right out (you bet I will...!). This not only costs them time and money, but helps the USPS out. If these groups would start getting lots of "pledges" like this, how long would it be before they would have to rethink their policy of random telephoning in violation of the NDNCR?
Unfortunately you have absolutely no understanding of what the DNC covers and doesn't cover. Try reading, you might learn something before coming here and making a fool out of yourself.
