Dead air, they disconnected without responding. Caller ID "DIST OF COLUMBIA," number is a MCI Metro ATS Landline in Washington, DC. Line silence sounded like it was a boiler room waiting pool, i.e. no sound until the dispatcher assigns the line to an operator. If the dispatcher doesn't hear an answer or doesn't like what he hears, he doesn't assign it and disconnects. I said "Hello Mr. District!" then "Hello, Mr. Columbia?" which probably got me disconnected.
Political groups, charities, and non-profits are exempted from the do-not-call list and this may have been a legitimate call. Others here tell of repeated calls, rudeness, and other unprofessional behavior so I haven't blocked the number; I may learn more later and if so, I will post what I learn here.
Since scammers pretend to be whoever is collecting donations at any point in time, I never give to someone on the phone. If you want to donate to a political candidate or party, use their web site so that you are certain where the money is going.
I have received four calls this morning. I pick up the phone and say hello. No one answers. It is frustrating! I called back and the message says they are calling it about the upcoming election. I can not leave a message.
Called my office asking for Mr. ___________. I told them that this was a business. He then asked for Mrs. __________. I repeated that this WAS A PLACE OF BUSINESS, not a home. He then said "Ok, thank you. Have a great day! BYEEEE!
Apparently a slow day there at the political call center?
