These overseas extortion scams have been going on for at least seven years and keep morphing with the advances in technology. The best thing you can do is either ask your phone company for assistance in blocking the calls or invest in a device which can be programmed to automatically reject unwanted calls. We subscribe to a call blocking service through our internet service provider which hangs up on these and other unwanted callers.
Got another call from 202-751-2455. Calling to reduce my credit bill by offering low rate. Automated recording saying his name is David. Before it was live person I keep telling to stop calling and I am on both Federal and State Do Not Call list. I guess being so nasty with live person, they now are putting a robot named David. This has to stop, filing the government complaints is not working as the government is not doing a thing.
Here's a tip...........I get almost no calls from sales people or scammers any more. My phone provider has a free feature I use which kicks out ALL "anonymous" callers. Sometimes the phone might ring once before it kicks them out but that doesn't happen often. ALL other callers get a prerecorded message that tells them: "You have reached a number that does not accept calls from solicitors, hang up. If you are not a solicitor, press 1 or just stay on the line to be connected". My family and friends don't seem to mind and since the service is only active between 9:00am and 9:00pm most of my family and friends call before 9:00 in the morning.
SEE IF YOUR PHONE PROVIDER HAS A FREE SERVICE LIKE THIS. This is available on my land line at home....I have no idea if it is available for cell phones. Solicitors are not supposed to call cell phones anyway.
Called, said Washington DC on caller ID, recording saying they have an important message about my credit cards (I don't have any credit cards) and how they can lower rates, before they close my file. Said to speak to a rep press 9 or to be taken off list press 3. I was listening to this as a recording on my machine so couldn't do either.
I am on Do Not Call Registry, too. I have given up reporting calls to it I don't think they do anything, Maybe just collect people's name, address and phone number in their database for whatever reason.
