This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
I got the phone call on Monday, claiming to be The State Department calling because the Federal Government has made a claim against me and that I need to talk to their Senior adviser.
Well I worked for the Attorney General's (And if you know your government) the State never ever calls for the Federal Government. So I told them they need to send me the complaint, via certified mail and I will deal with the complaint. I then hung up on him, never having talked to this so called senior advisor.
I tried calling the number back, and conveniently it was disconnected. Guess it sucks for them when someone knows it's a scam, and isn't afraid to tell them. Oh, and a side note, the guys accent (from India) kind of, through his cover.
I have reported this to our State's AG's Office.
I suggest you do the same, the AG will contact our Feds.

Just got a call from the same number about half an hour ago. Said contact attorney, if I don't call back best of luck, etc., etc.
Called a few times but after at least 3 rings the number gets disconnected each time.
