Just read these responses. Just want everyone to know about this scam. The caller sounds convincing. Some may fall for it. It's easy to be intimidated when u think the IRS is involved. Thanks everyone.
My friend received a msg from a PRIVATE CALLER today saying that he needs to contact IRS help desk number '202-800-8487' immediately to avoid any issues? Is it a real call or SPAM. Someone may please confirm.
It is fake - my mother-in-law got the same message and called me in a panic. The IRS will always send you certified mail if there is an issue. I guarantee that they will not call and start threatening legal action.
If these idiots call back ask them to send anything in writing and then hang up.
Unfortunately, this is a common scam that fools some people out of money. You can read about this common scam at the IRS website:
Just got a message asking me to call this 202-800-8487 number. The caller states that he is from the IRS and that I should not ignore this call in order to avoid penalities against your name and social security number. I can smell SCAM from a mile away and since I am aware of how the IRS works I also know that this did not make sense. Beware of this scam!!
