I heard of these "IRS" scams but this is the first time I got a call. I got it on my cell around 1:30 pm last Thursday, July 21st.
I rarely give out my cell number as I'm not a big user of it, but I still have to check that voicemail in case it IS a legit message.
I wasted minutes listening to a message that was partly cut off. Someone with a heavy accent, threatening tone, and loud male voice said something about "Officer David Carter with the IRS", to not disregard this message, that this message is for "you", and if the call is not returned he can only wish me the best of luck as this unfolds badly for you.
I know the IRS doesn't call people, nor e-mail them. The message didn't even use my name or say what it's about. IRS people are agents, not officers.
I've gotten scam calls with a "202" area code years ago, something about a lawsuit in my area. It's a Wash DC area code and is probably meant to scare you and is also probably spoofed.
I've had my cell number 10 years but only recently started getting these kinds of calls on it. It's not a smartphone so I can't block the number. Even my landline will let me do that.
I'm sure this is one of those IRS scams I've heard about or a shady debt collector posing as the IRS.
I received the same call today... I tried calling the IRS with no luck to asked them about OFFICER Cater. But could not get through to a person. I blocked the number.
I received coll for officers David carter. For my message told me samting to very badly happen to me he never say my name. He says from internal renueve servises.thank you.
