I just received a call from this number. They left a message saying "congratulations member" and stating that I had been "approved" for a credit card and to call back to activate the card. I suspect a scam, but either way I am registered on the national do not call list and have been for at least a good month and probably two.
been seeing the 202 area code (Wash. DC) calls on my cell phone. most smartphones have call blocking apps available. the one I have works pretty well. doesn't help much when the same [***] keep changing their number though, but at least the call blocking app stops them. not too much trouble to check the call history, then choose "block number". many folks these days are have cell phones surgically implanted to their bodies anyway, so it's not a stretch.
home phone blockage is a different matter. The Do Not Call Registry doesn't do much good. I've posted here before that the DNCR only works to block numbers of individuals or organizations that have not "legally" obtained your number in some fashion. quotes on 'legally' because their methods of obtaining your contact info are shady, but not entirely illegal. we put our information into the cybersphere almost daily. anytime you do business online and have to submit your personal information, regardless of the security of the site, you still agree to provide your information. privacy policies are what they are, but if you take the time to read the fine print, you'll notice they have funny clauses about "affiliates" having the right to obtain your information as well as the person/organization to whom you supply your information directly and willingly. through unseen partnerships and affiliations, unknown to most of us, these scammers obtain your contact info and then spam and scam the crap out of us. Do Not Call is thus pointless.

Our local news station reported that the NDNCR National Do Not Call Registry has political and Non Profit companies exempt from the registry. So if it's a credit card company saying you're pre-qualified, contact your local BBB and file a report with them, along with an online complaint to the fcc. When filing the complaint with the fcc, make sure you have the time's that the company called and what they said exactly.
