Got a call from 202-846-0115 some automated message claiming to be the IRS and that I need to call ASAP and do not block this number as they have my SSN. Automated message said to call 202-846-0499. Not even going to waste my time with this, blocking the number.
I just received a call from this number. They did not identify themselves, but call nearly everyday asking for my wife. The accent of the caller is either Indian or Middle East. This has been going on for months now and has become extremely frustrating. While our government cannot control the fact that these people are making the calls, I do believe that our government could order our communications industry to block these calls once they have been identified. These calls are originating overseas, but they are able to "spoof" the 202 area code number just the same as email addresses and IP addresses can be changed so the receiving party cannot easily identify the caller. If I block the spoofed number (because that is all I can see), they simply choose a new phone number, email address, or IP address. I refuse to believe that, with the technology we have, we cannot stop this kind of activity; activity that causes fear, frustration, and even loss of money. I have no idea why our government allows this to continue.

Why don't YOU employ it?
In other words, get a call blocker! Google is your friend.

I have employed it.. they just move to other numbers. I was trying to say that I do not believe this is something that is going to be solved by each individual blocking every spam call that comes in. I believe it would be much better to block them from ever hitting our phones in the first place. If my thinking is out of line, what can I say.
Your thinking is not out of line ... but your most recent post states things differently than your first post.

Rec'd call today and will not answer if I don't recognize # This info re it being scam IRS calls has been on area and nat'lt news of someone calling pretending to be IRS and threatening,,,the IRS DOES NOT call you and they do NOT have E. Indian, etc. accent..when will these idiots quit this?
