They called me on 05/20/2015 from the number of 202-864-1214 saying they are from the IRS and I am having a lawsuit filed by the IRS. Bring it on I have dealt with people like this before. I could use a payday for the lawsuit I will filed for a number of things that I can think of.
Automated message with Caller ID Washington D. C. The message said it was the IRS and my final notice. They said they were going to sue me and that I was to call 202-864-1214. Scam
Is this a scam? Received female voice recorded message on machine yesterday: "To inform you the IRS is filing lawsuits against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number (202) 864-1214. Thankyou". We do not file tax returns because we are senior citizens and live on social security, so I don't see how the IRS would be "filing lawsuits against" us for that. And besides, if one does not file a tax return but is supposed to do so, my understanding is that the IRS sends a letter to that effect, requesting one to file by a certain date. And, if the IRS is auditing past returns, my understanding is that they, likewise, send you a letter to that effect - they do not simply go out and "file a lawsuit against you" . Nevertheless, it is unsettling to receive messages like this. For some elderly citizens it can be very stressful and even cause a heart attack! To whom should this be reported - the IRS? FBI? State's Attorney General? It needs to stop.
