received an automated call that this was the IRS and they had been trying to reach me and that this was the last call before they filed a lawsuit. All info I get from IRS is thru the mail and I am good with them. They have never called.
Received a call this morning when I called back they had a lot of information but when I challenged them that unless they could send me paperwork I felt it was a scam, the guy hung up.
Got the exact same message as Silver on my answering machine, about an hour ago. Knew immediately it was a scam, didn't reply. Can't somebody some where do something to these scumbags and stop this harassment?
Got same call this morning. Caller ID said 202-864-1214, the same number they give as a callback number. At least these scammers are smart enough to use a Washington DC area code. They are not smart enough to know that the name of the agency is not "Internal Revenue Services". The last word is "service", singular. In addition to what the other posters have said, these scammers also don't realize that before a phone call, you would have received a flurry of notices in the mail. They also don't know that, a call from the IRS would not come from Washington but from a field office, the one that serves your area. Finally they would know your name and not threaten a general "you".
