Got a call from Sean saying he was from the Treasury Department and I was awarded a grant of $8000 as long as I promised to not use it for illegal items. To receive money I have to call 202-888-0168 and give my account info. Sounded like a SCAM so I googled the number and found this site.
Call called and said he was from us customs said I had a package that was stopped and if I wanted it I would have to pay 1500 dollars to get it out of customs . Told him I haven't ordered anything and that I didn't know what he was talking about and he hung up.
Got a call from 1-202-888-0168 and was asked for by name. The person had a very heavy accent, Said my loan application had been approved for 5,000. I told him I haven't applied for any loan and he then hung up on me. I tried to call the number back and it doesn't ring, just silent.
I received a call from this number telling me I had received a 8400 dollar grant from the IRS for paying my bills on time and good credit. He told me I could get this sent to my banking account or any credit or debit card and also sent to Western Union. He confirmed a lot of information about me which he had all correct and I told him I would not give this information out over the phone he could send it to Western Union. He said okay but I had to call 1-202-888-0168 and speak with Bret Marshall the grant officer to get it sent. I then called him and he wanted to send it to a Western Union at a Bank which was closed on Saturday (of course). He then told me to call back Monday that the IRS bank was closed. WHAT IS HE CALLING FOR IF HIS BANK IS CLOSED!!!! dah. This worries me that he knows so much about me though.
Search on your name, address and phone number. You will be surprised about how much is actually out there in various searchable databases. If they had the last 4 of your social security number contact the three credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Transunion and Experian and place fraud alerts on your accounts. Keep an eye on your various bank accounts for suspicious activities as well.
This call is just another variation of the 419 Nigerian scam where they want you to pay a fee upfront to receive the "grant" then take as much of your money as they can get. You can report this scam on the FTC website:
