Got a call from an Indian (accented) lady saying that she represents the IRS and that she wants to discuss some tax "challenges" with me... Is this a scam???
This just happened to me too. Fortunately, my husband found this page while I was still on the phone. It terrified me and I can imagine someone in a vulnerable situation or who has made a mistake on purpose or by accident on their tax return might give them the money because they are scared. I just received a call from this number as well. The lady identified herself as Lisa Dawson, she has an Indian accent, and says there's an outstanding warrant for my arrest for evading taxes. They sent to me the details in a letter and did not hear back from me. She proceeded to ask me if I received the letter. I was calm and asked her to hold on for a second so that I can write down her information before we can proceed with the call. When I asked her name, company (she said IRS, which didn't sound like it) then she hang up.
I called back right away, I got "Donna Dawson", same voice, same accent. When I asked to be transferred to Lisa Dawson, she insisted I can only talk to her, and wanted my Last Name, and other security sensitive information so that she can help me. I demanded to speak to her manager/superior, then she yelled in a condescending voice that she is the supervisor of the department.... Well, I have a wealth of customer service experience and I thought it was not worth continuing the conversation.... because I know I pay my fair share of taxes every year! And I know how the IRS works.
Same here - a lady named Lisa from IRS (203) 347-5717 - did a really good job telling me that i am being audited and i am about to go to jail, I almost believed until she said the word MoneyGram. that i need to send money to IRS via MoneyGram. Come on!!! I work in a CPA firm, I deal with IRS notices on daily basis. The scary part is that I almost believed her. I hope people do not send money to this "IRS", it is just infuriating to think about it. These people need to be caught and prosecuted.
I am still waiting for their 'police' to come over and arrest me because i dropped the call several times and they would still call back to threaten me. Maybe anytime now someone will show up at my door step because they know where i live, my full name and phone number. Hopefully someone shows up then I would call the real cops to discuss these matter with them.
