I agree with you entirely!

Let's hope it does appear in the Urban Dictionary, as it is the best descriptive word of who theses callers are, and does not give legitimate telemarketers a bad name.

Even if we don't care to receive a legitimate telemarketer's call, they are doing what they are instructed to do, usually trying to make a living, and hear nasty responses from people when they are simply doing their job.

Many telemarketers are doing good things for countless legitimate charities.  They just don't have a magic way to know who "wants" to receive their calls.

Lets not give ALL telemarketers a bad name - let's all agree to call them what they are -  "telemaggoters", as has been used in the post I referred to, and many others I have seen here when I searched this number.

And it let's agree that it belongs in the "Urban Dictionary", as it it is not found in a traditional dictionary, so others will use it and recognize it, if it exists in some reference guide.

Telemarketers do generate tons of charitable funds for good causes, but the word immediately conjures up a negative response - so, a new word that is understood and used by all for the bad guys is needed!

Appreciate the reply!

Agreed!  There are legitimate telemarketers out there, and most of the legit ones do abide by the DNC, as the financial penalties for not doing so can put a dent in the bottom line if they go uncheck.  Telemarketing is a tough gig, as I've heard from some friends who have worked it, and it's one job I would never like to have!  I have received only one call from a legit telemarketer since being on the DNC, and once I informed them of that fact, I never heard from them again.

The people who are breaking the rules are the ones who have no regard for them in the first place.  These are the scamming criminals who are already breaking the law, so the DNC means nothing to them.  They are the "telemaggoters".  I always use the bank robber analogy when referring to them.  Just as it's ridiculous to expect a bank robber to stop for a red light, it's ridiculous to expect a scammer to ever observe the DNC.

Thank you for describing a Telemaoggater!  I figured it was an invented word, but decided to ask anyway, in case there was a way to intercept the call before it went to my answering machine, and made me delete another "silent" message.

But it would be nice if such a thing existed, wouldn't it????!??  :-))

How about 'scamstress' to describe a female scammer, to differentiate them from male scammers? Maybe the term already exists??,
