My call was from the "tech department" to advise me of hacker/virus activity on my computer. They asked me to log into teamviewer.com so that they could "fix" my computer problem. Of course, this would give them access to my computer and all my data and passwords.
If you have the time, keep them on the phone and give them your own random nine-digit "login" codes and then four-digit "passwords". When it doesn't work, tell them you'll refresh the page and then give them another random login and password. Write down what you tell them (with the times of the attempts) and then email teamviewer.com to complain that their service is being used by scam artists. I hope that teamviewer keeps a log of unsuccessful sign-in attempts and can trace the login to a specific account or, at a minimum, to an IP address that can be stopped.
Here are the three email addresses to whom I sent my complaint.
