I also got a call from 205-379-0314 and they also left me a message with a case number and ask me to call back 251-301-9797, which is a local prefix in our area, trying to sound legit.

Yep a scam. I actually had ID theft
In 2008. Filed police report and put a watch on my credit. Have since signed up with Equifax to monitor an lick my credit.
Got a threatening call from 205-379-0314 and called the number left on the nessage 251-301-9797 ref#299857
Called and got "Laura" she asked me to verify the last 4 of my SSN. I did.
As I tried to explain this was earlier IF theft she started talking over me.
To her if she interrupted again the call was over! Asked for her address so I could send a cease & desist letter.
She interrupted again an said somebody made payments & that doesn't happen with ID theft - I said there were no payments made - she argued. I asked for the address one more time. She said they would not accept a C&D letter insinuating I made payments.
I politely tried to explain that I had a police report - she interrupted threatening a law suit - I said bring it on an hung up on her!!
I received a call from this 205 area code today and they left the same message about coming after me at my work and home. I have blocked this number and another number they have called me from. Does anyone know how to make them stop calling me other than changing my phone number?
