BE AWARE: You can not block all of these numbers. THE REASON: They are using "SPOOF CARD" technology. EXPLANATION: If you google (as I did) SPOOF CARDS, you find out that anyone can use them to put any name or number in the ID. Case in point.... I have been called by several local residential and commercial phone numbers. Each time it was "Bridget" wanting to lower my interest rate. They even had the nerve to spoof my own number. I was calling me!!!! No, it was Bridget. This is why you can not block these numbers. And when you call the spoofed numbers back, the person whose number it belongs to have no idea about this. This is not illegal yet. There is no law against using these spoof cards. We all need to complain for a law to be written.
More calls from you-know-who. This is a new number so it will get blocked. I don't know about Kathy, but I have no trouble whatsoever blocking the calls. I just add the number to my blocking device.
I have Panasonic phones and they allow me to block 250 callers. And I can block an entire range of area code numbers, if I want. It was definitely worth buying the new phone system. The scammers just called me with a "new" number. I didn't answer. After getting their number from my caller i.d., I blocked it. Seems like they change the numbers about once a week.
Claim my credit card company asked them to call me to reduce my interest rate. Wanted my credit card number. I told them if my card company told them to call me, then they should already know my card number. They became rude and slammed down the phone. Have repeatedly called me, even after I talked to them and told them not to waste their time. I told them I knew they were scammers and that I had reported them to the government for criminal activity, but they continue to harass me. I told them I now have caller ID and am reporting their calls to the government every single time. They obviously feel they have nothing to fear from our government, since they still are bothering me. The last time I talked to one of the scammers (Dec 18), a male from the company told me neither I nor anyone else could make them stop calling me. They probably get paid by the number of people they annoy, with a bonus for actually conning someone out of a card number.
My doctor said I should get caller ID because these frequent scam phone calls were causing me a lot of stress and might cause me to have another stroke. I am a disabled, low-income senior who really cannot afford the $10 a month for caller ID - it now means I have to use my credit card to buy part of my monthly groceries. I gave up my TV 3 years ago because I could no longer afford cable, and my area no longer gets free TV over the airwaves. I gave up my car because I could not afford to drive. Yes, I could give up my internet, but it is my only contact with the outside world (other than my phone, which I do not often use because most of my friends and relatives have already died). I know I could get free caller ID on a cellphone, but my hearing is poor so I need a special phone that allows me to greatly increase the volume.
I don't know why our government is not bothering to do something to shut down these scammers. They seem to use the same phone number for at least a month, so it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to track down these villains.
