I received a call from 'PAR3' yesterday and left voice mail. They went on to say they were SunTrust Bank calling and they had a message for me - asking that I dial their toll free number and enter the message ID they had left. Well once I got on they wanted my zip - I entered it correctly twice and "it wasn't in their records". That's when I hung up and called SunTrust - I spoke with 2 departments who assured me that it was not a call from them. I did a reverse lookup on the toll free they asked me to call and it is owned/leased out by XO.com whom I also contacted. They called in on (720) 221-1586 and asked that I return their call to (866) 250-4143.

I just received a call from phone number (206)428-0642. The caller ID said PAR3. I answered and immediately an automated recording stated that it was Bank of America and asked me to press 1 if I was so and so. I went ahead and pressed 1 to see what this was about. So then it told me how concerned Bank of America was about my privacy and security, so it asked me to verify my identity by entering my 5-digit billing ZIP code. It was then that I hung up.
I believed this to be a phone phishing scam, so I called Bank of America and was routed first to their fraud department. They verified that that phone number was indeed from them, and then transferred me to the department that was trying to reach me.
So rest assured, this is apparently a legitimate call from Bank of America. One of the people I spoke with said that had I confirmed the ZIP code, I would be placed on a call with somebody who would have explained everything.
I must say that this goes against everything I have ever learned about phishing scams, namely that you NEVER EVER give any personal information to anybody who calls you, especially if it's a bank.
