Got similar call. Talked to that person and it was not telemarketing. This idiot tried to scare me of a tax fraud and tried to get my credit card info to settle the case. I will report this number to IRS fraud dept once govt is open.
I recd. a similar message from "Officer Adam Scotts", and he tried to scare me with the fact that I had made an error on my tax returns and owe IRS $1500. And, he said that the IRS sent me communication via mail in July which I told him that I did not receive. So, he said that he will send me the papers in email. I could also hear fake type writer key sounds in the background. As if anyone uses typewriters any more. He also scared me that IRS will file a case against me and come after my assets if I don't react today.
The fact that IRS never sends communications via email and never threatens an individual to take action the same day seemed odd to me, and I hung up the phone. The imposter kept saying not to disconnect the phone and pay him up today.
Glad I googled for this number, and lo and behold it is a scam. Thank you all for keep it safe. I will report this to the IRS once the govt. opens.
