We received a message from the IRS yesterday regarding criminal charges against us, requiring us to call 913-871-5827 immediately; case CH76295; message stated that we or our attorney needs to contact ; wishing us "good luck" if we don't call.
I just received a message from 760-284-3098 advising me that my criminal case CH 76295 had been filed and that I or my retained lawyer should call them back immediately. This was a computer generated message and made me think for a moment. Then I googled the phone number and then the case number and located information on this caller. I wish them luck as it unfolds.
"Calling from the legal department of Internal revenue services. this is in reference to the criminal law suit filed against you. your case number is CH76295. the moment you receive this message i need you or your retained attorney of record to return the call. the issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. my phone number is 2027458221. Do not disregard this message and do return the call. now if you don't return the call and if i don't hear from your attorney or family then i can do is wish you good luck as the situation totally unfolds on you. Goodbye."
This is definitely a SCAM.
My 2¢ worth of tips for recognizing the SCAM.
1. The voice in the voicemail was the female voice of the ever popular Microsoft Narrator installed in almost every Microsoft PC
2. The phone number that showed up on my caller id was +20 2 7548221. +20 is country code for Egypt & 2 is local code for Cairo. IRS has definitely not moved to Cairo the last time I checked
