It's 2016 and I don't know anyone who pays per minute. You're really that upset because Amazon is calling their customers to let them know that their delivery has arrived? You sound crazy on these posts. If you don't want to answer your phone, that's fine, but don't tell people that Amazon calling about their delivery isn't safe just because you're paranoid.
Actually they do call from out of state numbers. The drivers are calling from Seattle area codes since that is where Amazon is based out of. They will call from an 877 number which is their dispatch number if they driver doesn't get a response at the door or when he/she calls. They try to avoid leaving packages outside in plain view where they can be stolen easily. I order from Amazon all the time and if I'm not home they will call me. I normally tell them to leave it if I'll be home soon, or tell them to come back later in the day.
Amazon delivery (AMZL) delivers 7 days a week, unlike UPS, FedEx & USPS. They started using their own delivery service nationally over the past year or so (maybe longer) for most items. Especially those fulfilled by Amazon. It also shows Seattle on the caller ID when Amazon calls, except when you don't answer a couple times. Then they might call from an 877 number which is Amazon dispatch.
