Second time this number has called - hangs up when you answer. Caller ID shows indicates the name Chad Perkins?? I see that someone else reported this number as doing the same thing.
The problems began on Friday the 16th. Over the last week the telephone company has suggested, in order: 1) that someone was in our house, besides the animals, while we were at work and made a bunch of these calls, 2) that our number was "stolen" late Friday morning and is being spoofed by 'a predatorial telemarketer in India', 3) that someone hacked into our line here in town and that the calls were actually made on/through their switch, 4) that there might be a problem with the line card in their Central Office -- read: they don't know yet.
What we do know: the calls are not being made from here. Good folks have reported talking to people in some telemarketing sweatshop some place. Our line has been going to either voicemail or an intercept recording since 9PM on the 16th. Calls reverted to VM at one point while the intercept message was changed. Here is some of the history of/for people who called this number:
Through 6:22PM 10/16: Ring No Answer (the first 25 calls once equipment was in place to count them easily)
6:22PM to 8:49PM: calls routed to VoiceMail. It has a sultry female voice (calls 26-63)
8:58PM 10/16 to 12:50PM 10/23 calls (64-1190) redirected to a somewhat long winded intercept message in a gravelly male voice.
12:51 10/23 intercept message was turned off for telephone technician visit; calls reverted to VM until 3:49PM
3:50PM 10/23 to Present: calls 1271 to present (1668) are getting a short "We're having technical difficulties" msg (in the male voice again).
Folks who called and said the number was busy are right; it's been busy with over 1,600 calls hitting the black box!
FairPoint Communications (the telephone company) offered to change our number of 22 years last week. I said how will that help? They say people will stop calling [you]. I say people will stop getting called and trying to call me? They say, well no; they'll still get called with your number/name, and may try to call your [to be] old number. I say, once again how does that fix this? They say well, you won't be bothered by this any more. Bothered how I say, we already have cell phones and everything here has been disconnected since the 16th?
With no one to complain as to who ever, and/or whatever, is doing this, nothing will get done about it. I've been talking to them everyday for last 9 days; sometimes two or three times a day. Some of you folks in CT & MD that are getting hammered should call them too. Ditto for NC, SC and FL. Just don't expect too much; they don't have people that work on these kinds of problems on the weekend. :((

My Mom received a call from this number 10/23 from someone saying he was calling from "Windows" and they had been "looking at her computer." When she asked why Windows would be calling, they hung up.
