Legitimate; Debt Collections. We began getting calls from this number several times per day, every day, with no message left on machine. When I finally called them back, it turns out that our unlisted (!) phone number was attached to the account of someone unrelated but having our same last name. The automated system asks for an IC number from correspondence; if unavailable, it asks you to input your phone number and the rep pulls up the name and address of the person they're attempting to contact. When I told them we weren't related to this person, they said they would purge our number from the system. No more calls!

So why is that stretch of illogic your problem to fix, hmm? Sloppy debt collectors could do a smarter job of finding their targets but choose not to, creating a runaway problem with needless skip tracing. That's not quite "legitimate", but somewhere between lazy and disingenuous.
Tired of this call coming in when I'm at work or anyother time because they don't leave a message as to wether or not I should respond or not. It has to stop.
