I left a message and was quite stern about taking my phone number off their calling list. I told them that I was recording the call and if I receive further calls from their organization, I will follow-up with appropriate consumer/government agencies and will take legal action if necessary.
In ending my call, I also reiterated that I have no interest in their cause and that it's a waste of time contacting me.
I hope others take action, also. I'm sick of being harassed in my own home by telemarketers, political agencies and survey organizations. I've been on the Do Not Call Registry for years. These organizations seem to find their way around it. I am intent on taking any action necessary to let them know that what they are doing is wrong, ineffective and illegal!
political calls are exempt from the do not call list. you can complain to the attorney general and it won't do you any good. they are within the boundaries of the law. i should know. i work with the researchers and it is ok. just tell them you are not interested and it should be all you have to do. i do them, but the telemarketers i have had to ask for a supervisor and then they take action.
I believe the calls are exempt UNTIL you ask to be taken off their call lists. Then the game's changed. At that point, they are required to put your name on their Do Not Call list. Most organizations then state that it may take 24 hours, 1 week or 30 days to remove your information, however, I've personally found that to be untrue. I keep calling their organization and ask to speak to a supervisor until they tell me it's been removed. I'm a technical person and the process should take no more than a couple of minutes if you push the issue.
