I believe that when we are receiving calls with no one answering when we pick up. It is a phone system that is testing to see if the line is a voice line or fax. If someone picks up and says something, it will simply hang up and then the number gets added to a call list that will then be forwarded to a telemarketing scam. I have noticed that this happens probably monthly. I get one call from an unknown number that is dead air and within a few days I start receiving calls from people trying to sell me a security system or refinance something.
Lately, when the security company calls. I tell them that I am the officer on duty and I'm trying to understand why they are calling the police station to put a security system in place. I have also tried numerous times, telling them that they are calling the phone of a minor, I have only had one person apologize. . It is pointless to report this as a do not call violation because they simply get another number and start all over. There must be a way to stop this once and for all. It has only been happening to me for the past 2 years.
If I tried to ask what company they are with. They hang up.
I guess they're back. just got the call 5 minutes ago 2:49 PM on 5/7/14. only one ring. I will save this phone number as a do not answer contact. That way when it rings and I read do not answer - I can just set the phone back down.
