Fly, you're responding to a post from a year ago but let me see if I can explain it to you. These scammers call to tell you that you qualify for a grant that you never applied for. That's red flag number 1. Next they tell you that they have a check for you but you must send them money to cover some made up expense. That's red flag number 2. Next they ask you to send this money via some untraceable method such as a green dot card. That's red flag number 3. This is an old scam with new twists but a scam nonetheless.
