South Asian sounding male telling me my computer was infected. He wanted me to follow his instructions and run certain programs on my computer to do a virus check. He asked me to enter 'nf' in the run file box. I asked him if I could call him back. He gave me the above number. It's a California number I think.
His number showed up as unavalable on my caller id. He said he was calling from Micro ss corp. partners with microsoft.
I denied his requests. Funny thing is, my anti virus software wasn't actually running at the time. It's normally running. Also, he said he has been getting error messages for a month or so from my computer.
This is to say that I was contacted on 10 September 2010 by an adviser informing me that my home computer system had been hacked into. The gentleman (I use the word loosely) informed me that he was working on behalf of Microsoft and that the home computer network was flashing up error messages and warning messages at Microsoft. He took me through some screens and appeared to be working some magic as if he had control of the PC I was using. The screen shots appeared to substantiate his claim that there was something amiss with the machine. He then instructed me to the C prompt and to run the old DOS command TREE on the route directory. It took a lifetime to run throught and again the message at the end suggested the machine to be breached. He then directed me to a web-site "dweelcomp.com" and as soon as I saw that I had to download software, pass on credit card details it was then and only then I realised this was a SCAM. The F***ING B**TARD nearly had me. I advised him that a family member had taken ill and took a note of his phone numbers 2097594929 and 0186 558 9188 and said I would call him back to continue the transaction. There is no way I will call. All users please be aware of this type of SCAM.
Just received a call from these guys too (03rd October 2011) calling themselves Micro SS Corporation. Heavy asian accents insisting that that I have a problem with my computer - I told them to verify themselves and if they were registered in this country (UK) - couldn't answer that question ! He then reeled off a Windows registration number which I know isn't mine !! These people are pond life. I hate to think who they actually take in but I am very suspicous of telephone calls these days - thank goodness for being able to look up blogs like !
