I received a phone call from an area code (209) jamestown, california just now. As soon as i answered the phone & said "hello" an automated computer tone responded with "goodbye" and the call was then ended on their end... It was very eerie and i'm now worried that someone may be trying to gain access to my personal information/tap my phone, does anyone know if this is at all possible, or is this just likely a prank or telemarketing snafu?!
DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO THIS COMPANY. This company is fishing for personal information. They just called me saying they worked for my auto insurance company and needed to update my info and verify billing information. They had information that was outdated (they asked if I was still driving a car I sold years ago) and the caller had a very thick foreign accent. I've been with the same insurance company for 16 years, and I know they would definately know what kind of car I drive and have my correct billing address.

Probably be OK, but they could mainly be looking for numbers that are in service. If you ignore unknown numbers in all ways, they get nothing from you. If there was no conversation other than a hello and goodbye, you're likely in no harm. Could have been just a fishing call for working numbers to resell.
