I get calls from these people at least twice a day. I do not know anyone in Texas and when I call the number back I either get a busy signal or a voice mail saying Metro News. I left a message to them that I was on a do not call list and to never call here again.
I received the same call everyday from these people. When I tried to call back and informed the person on the phone that someone had called my number, they hung up. The next call only resulted in a recording saying it was Metro News.
Fortunately, they only had my Google Voice number, so I just logged in and blocked their number. I know a lot of people have had numbers for a long time and it can be a real pain to give out a new number, but I would highly recommend Google Voice (its free) to make these annoying calls disappear. I have not yet tried calling my wireless carrier to request a call block, but I'm sure its a pain.
I use it all the time to sign up for anything important (in case I lose my phone) or if I don't want to put my phone number on something in case I have to block it.
No, I don't work for Google, but its helped me keep these idiot callers under control. But then again, these pests have other ways of finding your number. It also doesn't help if they already know your non-hidden number.
I received a call from this number today and on my caller ID it said out of the area. When I called it back, there was a recording to leave a message for Metro News. I didn't leave a message. I live in DE, so I'm not sure why they would be calling from TX.
I'm on the do not call registery, and They won't stop calling me up to 3 times a day. I even tried to call it back and it a computer generated system so it can't recieve calls. It P#$% me off to bother me at work. I'm in Michigan, I don't read my local paper????
They are a COLLECTION AGENCY getting you to answer the phone for voice recognition software to capture your voice and others in the house. They are looking for a person who has a debt they purchased for pennies on the dollar and are trying to identify the occupants at your phone number.
Bottom line is they are calling your number under the guise of a media company or poll to identify who all lives at your location and the best times to call when you will answer the phone. Eventually you will get a call from a live person requesting info on someone you know or are the person they are looking for. Collection Agencies have been using voice identification software for years when it became available to security agencies and police depts for the purpose of identifying and tracking individuals.
Do not return the call and avoid answering the phone when their caller id appears.
