I get calls from these people at least twice a day. I do not know anyone in Texas and when I call the number back I either get a busy signal or a voice mail saying Metro News. I left a message to them that I was on a do not call list and to never call here again.
These calls are from a Bill Collector. The caller id shows area code 210 but the originator of the call can be from a State like Oregon which even allows recording of your voice without your knowledge. As someone above noted very convenient to capture your voice for their voice recognition software.
I found this number to actually reach a live body: 210-587-2222. I only have my cell and they are calling with automated dialers which is completely illegal btw. Plus I am on the do not call registry. I've filed a case on the registry website. What really gets me, is that I've asked them before not to call me anymore and they still do. [***].
And anyone else..... They are Bill Collectors trying to get the identification of persons answering the phone number. They use fake polls or marketing scams to get info from you. All they need is for you to answer the phone with a Hello because they are using voice recognition software to identify the persons at your house. They are looking for an individual living at the phone number or hoping to get you to point the finger at someone they are looking for which they suspect you may know about. These people buy unpaid bad debts for pennies on the dollar form a pool of bad debts hoping they might get lucky to be the debt collector to collect on the debt.
Look at the caller id and do not answer the phone.
I returned the call and a machine answered saying Metro News. I left my number and demanded they not call it again. I also indicated that I did not want their product.
