I just got a call today from this number asking for Robert. The caller had an accent which made it difficult to understand, but it was clearly not my name. I said he must have a wrong number, so he asked for my name. I would not give it out. He then said he was with Farebuzz and needed to check my flight. I told him I had no flight, and I added I didn't want a sales call. He kept pursuing so I hung up.
While it may have been a legitimate phoine number error, alarms went off when he asked for my name before identifying himself. At the very least it's not professional and it put me on my guard immediately.
I received another call, this time from someone with an Indian accent looking for credit card info. It turns out that he has a flight code that was used by the company I work for (they're in Toronto) and made it sound like they were handling a reservation for me to travel there next week. This is not the way my company arranges flights however, so I double checked and our admin told me we use another compant for booking, it was pre-paid using a company card, and so the matter is now being pursued by both the REAL travel agency and my company.
Received a call from this number, FareBuss, looking to verify that I am the person who is the card holder. They said they were simply verifying that the flight purchase was legit since the ticket I purchased was for someone else. The person spoke with very broken English wanting to verify my name on the credit card and the last four numbers of my card to match it with what they have. I have $15.00 dollars charged to my account today. I've got a really bad feeling about this and wanted to inform others. Calling my bank now so they can see/keep track of.
I am working with a reputable travel agent who is booking me travel this evening and I just got a call to verify the booking, the person spoke with an Asian type accent, broken english, when I questioned the call he hung up, 10 minutes later he called back insisting to talk to me "the credit card holder" said he was representing American airlines, my husband told him we would verify info w a airline representive, the man was some what persistent, but my husband hung up on him. Same as above. Caller had thick Indian accent. Knew the name of my credit union and wanted card details to verify a transaction whereby my card had supposedly been used to book travel in someone else's name. Very persistent. Talked over me as I tried to get information from him. Kept asking to speak with my supervisor. (I'm self employed and don't have one.)
I hung up and 5 minutes later received another call that went directly to voice mail.
Definately a scam!
I am a Travel Agent and have used Farebuzz for airline tickets several times as have my colleages with no problems or issues over the years. I would suspect the scammer who is calling is totally illegitimate but USING and identifying themselves as Farebuzz. I have had several scammers contact me especially on my home landline displaying a phone number that when Ive contacted, found it was with a legitimate company that even had to put a disclaimer on their web site that the scam calls were NOT being generated by them. Unfortunately reporting the calls to the govt entity does not good because the number is legit and the company is legit but the scammer isn't. Guess they cant figure out how to find out where the calls actually generate from.
