I rcvd. a call yesterday from an Indian sounding guy saying he was from Microsoft tech support & that they have been notified that I have a virus & spyware and they need to fix it.  I told him I would have to call him back; he gave me 212-796-4064.  I then tried to do a reverse phone check on it & it said "unpublished or unavailable".  So called it back, he said "this is Alex", I asked what company and he said "Microsoft tech support", and I hung up, still very leery, because I had checked my Norton's anti-virus and it said all was secure, and I did a Norton's scan and it said NO viruses or spyware. Called my guy I depend upon for support and he said it is a scam.  Thank heavens I didn't fall for it.

Careful Person
Got a call from unknown number.  An indian guy claimed he was calling from Microsoft and that I had a virus on my computer.  He was very insistent that I get on my computer immediately to work with him in removing the virus.  He identified himself as Martin and provided this number 212-796-4064 as his call back number.

I also received a call from this guy.  He said that I could sign up for
help at $80 a month.  I think that he works with other people who work customer service at banks accross the country.   How unfair is this!
They want your ss#'s.  God only knows what their plans are for your financial situation.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.
