I got a call this am , answered it. Said it was From windows nd my computer was downlaoding files. Complete scam. He sounded East Indian and when I asked why it said the call was from the United Nations he had no response. He asked me to turn on my computer. When I asked if this was happening on windows system he said yes. When I told him I don't have windows i have a Mac, and asked him to tell me what my name was he hung up. Do not give them any of your info.
Register a complaint with the "Do Not Call Registry" - hopefully they can stop these scammers. I've received at least 8 calls from them in the past two week and each time either didn't answer or told them to stop calling - this time I was emphatic and told the woman I would be filing a complaint against them. She hung up. I'm sure they will call again. I'll find out how to block a number and do that now.
The caller had an accent as if from India. He said he was from Microsoft and that I was a long term windows user. This was a courtesy call that I had a computer virus and he needed me to turn on my computer. He said he was going to walk me through it and help me get get rid of the virus. I heard a child in background and hung up, He called back 3 times and I left it go to the machine but no message. When I redialed the number it is not in service. Someone told me about googling the number and I am surprised to see all your responses.
Just got a call from this number on my Employers phone at 7:45 AM. Caller ID said it was United Nations, man said he was calling from Microsoft about error messages my computer was sending to them about viruses. HIs Indian accent was so thick he was hard to understand so I told him I was unable to understand him and called him out on the caller ID saying United Nations he hung up.
"United Nations" has called me several times over the last few weeks. I finally answered today. He told me that he was calling about my computer. I then proceeded to yell at him for waking my wife up and told him not to call me again. Accent was very thick and the call quality was very poor.
This is a scam. What they will ask you to do is to load a legal remote software package and they will supposedly remove virus from your computer. Once you download and give them a password, they have remote access to your computer and will extract passwords for any accounts, credit cards, or use your system to run illegal activities.
I have spoken with the software owners and are trying to catch these pigs.
