They are a real company. If you read all the paperwork when you're signing on with an insurance plan and really read what benefits you actually already have , you'll find Humana US Imaging in the print. It's not HIPPA since its medical to medical and they are designed to save the insurance company AND the actual members money. They saved me from a 3000 dollar bill from the hospital. It's strange at first when they call for d.o.b and zip code but the laws to protect YOUR medical privacy would be against the law for them to release ANY info until they can confirm they are speaking to the correct person. For the people who just think everything is a scam can just go to the hospital and trust that your doctor isn't getting any kind of benefit by sending you to the places they refer ALL of their patients and it's all business.. Let's be honest people good luck finding a doctor that truly is looking for what's best. You CAN have an MRI of a knee elsewhere that does the same test same quality but not charging you an arm and a leg! Try to educate yourself and notice you have better options.
A caller contacted me stating they were calling to schedule an MRI for me. When I asked if this was Humana, they said yes..they knew about an MRI that had been requested to Humana from my "health care provider" and were trying to get personal information from me.
In my further questioning I determined that they were not Humana, but a billing broker, promising that they could possibly schedule a proceedure at less $$ out of pocket for me..
It appears that insurance companies (Humana) must be providing patient contact information to "imaging brokers" who may have deals cut with possibly substandard imaging centers in order to route the imaging to the lowest bidder at the time..
Quite disturbing (but not suprising) that the insurance companies subcontract to brokers..and provide my personal contact information!
My CT scan was scheduled directly from the doctor's office with Humana's blessing. I had the test a couple days ago. They are just now getting around to calling me. Scam, but I am unhappy that they have my information and plan to contact Humana.
Not a scam, but very annoying. UHC confirmed that they do work with them but they are a third party. I did NOT give my insurance company authorization to give my CELL PHONE NUMBER to a third party!!!! (They do give you lower cost, in network imaging services. In my case they made it seem like I HAD to go to one of their providers, my insurance company told me not true.)
