They are a real company. If you read all the paperwork when you're signing on with an insurance plan and really read what benefits you actually already have , you'll find Humana US Imaging in the print. It's not HIPPA since its medical to medical and they are designed to save the insurance company AND the actual members money. They saved me from a 3000 dollar bill from the hospital. It's strange at first when they call for d.o.b and zip code but the laws to protect YOUR medical privacy would be against the law for them to release ANY info until they can confirm they are speaking to the correct person. For the people who just think everything is a scam can just go to the hospital and trust that your doctor isn't getting any kind of benefit by sending you to the places they refer ALL of their patients and it's all business.. Let's be honest people good luck finding a doctor that truly is looking for what's best. You CAN have an MRI of a knee elsewhere that does the same test same quality but not charging you an arm and a leg! Try to educate yourself and notice you have better options.
Not a scam. Having mri done using geha health ins.I read in the geha handbook about u s imaging possibly contacting geha members to provide info about imaging centers which they did.And yes it is what's done by insurance companies to save money by steering you to imaging facilities that have negotiated better rates thus saving them money. But to be fair it also saves the insured money because your coinsurance amount due is less. My home phone caller id said dr.appt but my cell said new york
I had a CT done at a imaging center. They were very professional on the scan and report. However, they are trying to collect from me what GEHA has disallowed. I told them when they billed me for the correct amount I would pay it but not the disallowed amounts. They are disputing with GEHA. They may save the insurance money but passing the charges on to me.
Called claiming that they were responding from our doctor (whom they could not name), wanting my wife's DOB and address - our medical center has all those records. Fishy.
Recd call at 8:28am. Caller ID: Marwood Group, number 1-212-994-8444. Let go into voicemail. When listened to message, heard only recorded "elevator music" as if I was on hold. Waited till end to see if a person ever came on and none did before disconnect. Now, after reading these reports from others, and having switched to Humana this year, and waiting to hear back from my Dr's office that is scheduling my MRI-whom incidentally called yesterday to get my new Humana ins info, I can now assume the reason for this call. With HIPPA laws today, it is infuriating that a company outside my Dr's office appears to be receiving info about me from the insurance company to market or solicit my procedure. Trust the facility that your doctor recommends or a facility that you already have experience with. As long as the facility is "In Network" with your ins company, and depending on the ins plan you have, YOUR cost should be the same (unless you have a High Deductible Health Plan, in which, unless you've met your deductible, you'd be responsible for the "discounted" cost (discounted-contractually agreed upon cost between between ins co & facility) or the percentage split if you are in the Out-Of-Pocket phase of the plan. The reason the ins co would farm this out would be to keep THEIR expenses down. And from the sounds of one the previous comments in this thread, if you choose to go somewhere "cheaper," it may be at an Out-Of-Network facility which could put you on the hook for substantially more of the cost, bill you for what the ins co doesn't cover, OR even put the entire burden on you. As an insurance agent, I see and hear about more "games" ins companies play to keep the $ in their pockets and this is now just a new way. So aggravating.
