It is a scam!  I just experienced this:

I responded to an add in our local paper for personal assistant.  They responded here:

Hello:

We have received your application for our advertise position. Regretfully, someone already filled the position. But I will like to direct you to a family friend who is in need of  a personal assistant and willing to pay a reasonable salary ($600)weekly, His name is Louis Studdan, and he can be reach at: [email protected] Do contact him your self for more details and let him know i refer you, he will be more than happy to give you the job...

Then when I e-mailed Louis Studdan this is what I received back:

Hi,
Thanks for contacting me, and yes i asked to refer to me anyone who will like to work as a personal assistant, since they have gotten someone. Firstly, there is no traveling involved in this position. I am from the States but currently based in Qatar working with Ningbo Jintian Copper Co. as an independent contractor, i have been with them for 7 years now and we make lots of supplies to some of our clients in the USA, Canada and Asia for which i do come to and fro to receive payments via cashier's check and US money orders from buyers and have it cashed after i supply them raw materials. Its very expensive and stressful for me to come down and receive such payment twice every month so i thought it would be best to have someone to this on my behalf while i try to save cost and travelling expenses.
I am willing to pay you 10% of every payment you receive from our clients. The payments would come to you in the amount of $3000 or more depending on the supplies needed to be made and it would come twice a week. You are to deduct your 10% out of each $3000 you get, and send the remaining funds to any of our warehouse managers that will be given to you later.
If you are interested, kindly get back to me as soon as possible with your details below and we'll move from there.

According to how you have been briefed earlier, you are required and mandated to receive payment on behalf of the below mentioned firm and you are to deduct 10% of all funds processed on a particular order and forward the balance payment to any of Ningbo Jintian Copper Co. Group regional warehouses that will be given to you later. You will notify the company a week ahead if eventually you want to discontinue this job so as to terminate all payment coming your way to avoid conflict...

I would await your confirmation response.

Same email sent to me two days ago.

Exact same email sent to me yesterday.  Thanks for the heads up.  Perhaps I will write to the Danbury News Times and tell them about the ad.  Not sure they are interested since it generates revenue for the paper but maybe someone on the editorial desk might want to look into it and would have some information about who placed the ad and that would give law enforcement authorities a lead.

Yes, I didn't get the call, but I did get the full email above.  I was responding from my local newspaper as well.  I was so excited too.  Gave places of previous employment to prove my capability because it was for a personal caregiver.  I thought, FINALLY.  I'm glad that I googled the business, because Louis Studdan was listed under related searches.  I was ONLY going to research the company.... I really could've gotten into some trouble had it not been for your posts.  It's too bad, because I was ready to work for them.  I gave them a copy of my BLS certificate.  So glad it wasn't my resume.
